Title

C. Cornelii Taciti Opera quæ exstant, ex recensione et cum animadversion- ibus Theodori Ryckii

Description

This printed ex-libris, attached to the “von Ende” family of Altjessnitz, Germany, appears on the interior pastedown of this book. It serves to remind us that the ex-libris was also considered an art form during certain eras for bibliophiles, who collected just these with a passion. The vignette format as seen in this example appeared in Nuremberg, Germany, at the beginning of the 16th century. Even today there are associations of collectors who indulge their passion for this tiny works of art at sometimes premium prices.
