Title
La Vie de Mademoiselle Le Gras : fondatrice et première supérieure de la Compagnie des Filles de la Charité, Servantes des pauvres malades
Description
This book offers us an example of a new owner actually wishing to keep the traces of previous ownership. Besides the wish to keep track of the origin and physical journey of the book, it was also a way to assert ownership of the copy to anyone who might want to usurp that. Here we read: “Ce livre nous a été donné de notre maison de Paris il nous appartient aux sœurs de Vilenne” in another hand: “Ce livre Appartient” et finally, it in yet another ink: “Ce livre appartient aux sœurs de la charité de Villenne”. (“This book was given to our House in Paris; it belongs to the Sisters of Vilenne”; “This book belongs to”; “This book belongs to the Sisters of Charity of Vilenne”). The Sisters of Clarity of Villennes were located near Saint-Germain en Laye in France.
