(EN) : External anatomy: Lateral view. Springtails are wingless insects, which feed on dead organic matter like decaying plant material, fungi, and bacteria (saprophytes or detritivores). They possess a saltatory organ, the furcula (a forked, tail-like appendage located on the ventral side of the fourth abdominal segment), while the retinaculum (a clasp-like structure on the third abdominal segment) holds the furcula in place. When the furcula is released from the retinaculum, it swings downward and hits the ground, catapulting the springtail into the air.

Les collemboles sont des insectes aptères qui se nourrissent de matières organiques mortes comme des végétaux en décomposition, des champignons et des bactéries (saprophytes ou détritivores). Ils possèdent un organe saltatoire, la furca ou furcula (un appendice caudal fourchu situé sur la face ventrale du quatrième segment abdominal), tandis que le rétinacle (une structure en forme de fermoir sur le troisième segment abdominal) maintient la furcula en place. Lorsque la furcula se détache du rétinaculum, elle pivote vers le bas et heurte le sol, catapultant le collembole dans les airs.
