"Les troupes de l'E.A.M. ont connu d'importants échecs aujourd'hui. Elles ont eu à subir une action britannique accentuée avec emploi de chars, (artillerie) et attaques d'avions (3055) en pique, qui a dégagé le centre d'Athènes.

D'après ce que nous dit le Ministre des Affaires étrangères, les communistes auraient compris qu'ils n'auraient pas en cette affaire à attendre d'encouragement de Moscou".

Notre Ambassadeur à Londres vient d'effectuer au Foreign Office la démarche que je lui avais prescrite à la réception du télégramme no 500 de M. CLARAC. En raison de l'amélioration de la situation militaire en Chine méridionale, le Foreign Office n'envisage pas (5667) évacuation Tchoung-king et télégraphie dans ce sens à son Ambassadeur en Chine. De toutes les façons si l'éventualité d'une évacuation se présentait à nouveau, Sir HORACE SEYMOUR qui va recevoir des instructions à cet effet se tiendrait en contact avec vous.

La composition des chargements de la période janvier-février-mars dépend des tonnages des chargements disponibles en Angleterre. Une grande partie des métaux non-ferreux par exemple est disponible simultanément en Angleterre et aux Etats-Unis. Il est donc indispensable que nous soyons avisés au plus tôt des achats qui pourront être (7478) conclus en Angleterre compte tenu de nos moyens paiement. Je vous demande de me télégraphier d'urgence à ce sujet et de m'indiquer, en vous référant au document intitulé "Programme d'expédition au départ de la Grande-Bretagne", daté du 15 décembre et établi avec Commandant BERNARD au cours de mon séjour à Londres, les tonnages qui seront certainement disponibles pour chargement en janvier d'une part, et février-mars, d'autre part, compte tenu de nos possibilités financières. Pour qu'il n'y ait pas de malentendu je vous rappelle que ce programme d'envois aboutirait à un tonnage total disponible pour chargements janvier de 127.000 tonnes et pour février-mars de 98.000.
