Cette dépêche, qui se ... d'une source complètement sûre", indique que le gouvernement de Washington est prêt à appuyer (Général EISENHOWER) pour exclure tout danger (que) constituent pour les opérations militaires les ... politiques entre le Général DE GAULLE et le Général GIRAUD. (Le Général EISENHOWER)"(encouragera) en Afrique du Nord aucune activité (gaulliste) ou autre qui:
I. Retarderait 1 ... militaire allié; (1447)
II. Mettrait en danger les lignes vitales de ravitaillement anglaises françaises américaines en Afrique du Nord et en Afrique Occidentale Française;
III. Saperait le moral des forces du général GIRAUD sous le commandement du (Général EISENHOWER) et empêcherait leur participation efficace aux opérations projetées en Méditerranée.

Jusqu'ici, ajoute l'article, (le Général EISENHOWER) et les autorités américaines se sont tenus à l'écart des luttes politiques françaises, mais le ... américain doit s'assurer que les activités françaises maintenant divisées ne metteront d'hanger la vie des soldats américains. Le (Général EISENHOWER) se montrerait très sceptique sur le succès de (1448) l'accord de compromis au sujet de la dualité des forces militaires françaises. Cet accord avait été conclu pour répondre à la demande du (Général EISENHOWER) qui voulait que le Général GIRAUD continue à commander les forces d'Afrique et désirait empêcher une purge des officiers par le Général DE GAULLE. L'article attribue cette situation aux efforts persistantes du Général DE GAULLE pour remplacer par ses propres (adhérents) les officiers des forces françaises qui ont à un moment ou à un autre été associés avec le gouvernement de Vichy. La politique des alliés a été d'utiliser pour l'administration des colonies françaises autant que possible le personnel qui avait été (1449) en place.
Les forces françaises sous le Général GIRAUD ont participé avec dévouement et succès aux victoires d'Afrique. On estime qu'il est essentiel pour la sûreté des armées alliées que le Général GIRAUD contrôle d'une manière complète les forces françaises d'Afrique sous la direction du (Général EISENHOWER).
