Les sénateurs isolationistes de l'avant-guerre ont manifesté dès hier l'inquiétude que leur causait cette éventualité du second front. Le sénateur NYE a demandé pourquoi "d'autres alliés ne se chargeraient-ils pas de l'ouverture du second front avant nous? Nous avons, il a ajouté, suffisamment de fronts qui réclament déjà notre attention exclusive." Par ailleurs le sénateur WHEELER a exprimé l'espoir que "les Américains ne tenteraient pas une invasion insensée de l'Europe avant (2284) d'être complètement preparés. Le peuple d'ímérique ne veut pas d'un second Dunkerque".

Tous les comentaires insistent également sur le fait que l'accord anglo-russe d'assistance mutuelle pour une durée de 20 ans n'engage pas les E.U. et serait une affaire purement européenne.
