L'ancien ministre italien déclare à cette occasion que rien ne pouvait être plus sensible à l'(orgueil) italien que les (défavorables) allusions de la presse des Nations Unies au manque de valeur militaire de l'armée italienne:-
"Après les échecs militaires des Britaniques, il n'appartient pas, a précisé le comte SFORZA, aux Nations Unies de critiquer le courage et la valeur militaires des soldats italiens."

Enfin, se référant au livre du colonel KENNAN, qui recommande aux Alliés de commencer l'invasion de l'Europe par un débarquement en Italie, le comte SFORZA a fait remarquer "qu'une telle suggestion ne pourrait profiter qu'à NITLER ou à MUSSOLINI."

La presse americaine de ce matin considère que le sort du proche Orient se décide en ce moment. On reconnait généralement que les Anglais ont engagé toutes leurs forces et mis tous leurs espoirs dans l'issue de cette rencontre. Les commentateurs sont d'ailleurs extrêmement pessimistes:- "Seul un miracle militaire pourrait empêcher BONMEL d'arriver au Caire," écrit le commentateur de P.W.

Enfin une vague anti-britannique apparait (dans) les journaux de ce matin. Dans le WALL STREET JOURNAL Monsieur MORLEY considère que:- "(Les) Anglais se battent très bien aux heures de désastre à ... de défendre leur pays. En Egypte ils ont peu de (2596) coeur à la lutte puisqu'ils se savent sur un territoire dont ils se sont emparés sans droit bien établi ... .

De même, le CHICAGO SUN écrit:- "La ... de l'impérialisme anglais apparait en Egypte, la Malaisie et la Birmanie."

Les journaux du "NEWS SYNDICATE" se sont depuls 2000; come je l'al indiqué, à la politique du second front en Europe.

Par contre, le CHICAGO TRIBUNE peralstant dans sa doctrine ancienne écrivalt hler soir:- "Nous ne connaissons qu'un second front, celui du facifique. Tant que les Japonais occuperont les îles Alćoutiennes, Wake et Guam, tant qu'ils menaceront l'Australie, ce serait une folle de croire que le Pacifique est un champ d'action secondaire. Ceux qui demandent l'ouverture d'un second front en Europe dédent à la propagande communiste ou à celle des Anglais."

Le Président ROOSEVELT a approuvé
(hier) un projet de M. TURBELL, gouverneur de Porto Rico, qui donnerait aux habitants de cette colonie le droit de disposer (de) choisir librement leur gouverneur en 1944 ou du moins à la fin des hostilités. Il est à noter enfin que le haut commissaire aux Philippines, M. SAYNE, a donné sa démission et n'a pas été remplacé et que le président des Philippines, M. QUEZON, représente lui-même les Philippines au Conseil du Pacifique.

On rapproche ici ces décisions (2614) du gouvernement américain des nouvelles dispositions prises aux Indes par les Anglais qui ont nommé deux Indiens au cabinet de guerre (mon tel.2592) et ont accordé une majorité aux indigènes dans le conseil du ... vice-roi à Delhi.
