L'annonce des revers des troupes russes en (Gaucasie) provoquent dans la presse américaine de nouveaux appels à l'ouverture d'un second front dans l'ouest de l'Europe pour soulager la pression allemande sur les Russes. Un éditorial du "NEWS SYNDICATE" déclare à ce propos:- "Les nouvelles de Russie empirent oHque jour. Si HITLER avance encore un peu vers le (Gaucase) le U.R.S.S. pourra être forcé de demander une paix séparée(.) (En même) temps le président du Syndicat des marins américains qui revient de Londres nous indique que les troupes alliées sont si serrées les unes contre les autres dans les îles britanniques qu'll n'y a pratiquement plus de lase disponible. Ouvrons le second front maintenant même si cela doit signifier un massacre. Les Anglais auraient peut-être (2754) ca d'ailleurs s'abstenir de leurs raids de commandos sur la côte de France, puisqu'ils ont de cette façon déjà donné à l'ennemi le secret des tactiques de débarquement.
De même, M. (BILLIAR) SIMMS estime "qu'il y a toute raison de penser qu'un second front anglo-américain dans l'ouest de l'Europe n'est plus éloigné et qu'il sera ouvert par mer et per air. La côte de France et'valle des Pays-Bas sont la région logique du débarquement."
Mais il importe surtout de signaler l'article publié ce matin par WALTER LIPPMANN qui déclare: "La reconnaissance du Général de GAULLE comme File D-2204

De nombreux échos sont encore à relever dans la presse d'aujourd'hui concernant l'ouverture éventuelle d'un second front. Dans le NEW-YORK TIMES M. KROCK estime qu' (il se peut) qu'une offensive de terre anglo-américaine soit déterminée et qu'elle ait lieu beaucoup plus tôt qu'on ne le pense." Un éditorial de NEW-YORK TIMES juge "inconcevable que quelque chose ne soit pas (fait) à peu près immédiatement pour soulager la pression allemande sur le front russe." Le NEW-YORK TIMES estime cependant qu' (après) le voyage de M. MOLOTOV les Russes doivent savoir à quoi s'en tenir sur la possibilité d'un second front et ne peuvent reprocher aux gouvernements anglais et américains de les décevoir. Le TIMES HERALD de Washington (2766) s'indigne à nouveau de l'(inactivité) des anglais dans leur fle (et leur) reproche d'attendre l'arrivée des renforts américains avant d'oser agir. Le BALTIMORE SUN se plaint de l'état de ......... à ce sujet et ne comprend pas si les chefs des Nations Unies entendent ou non passer à l'offensive cette année.
