Les journalistes, commentant la nomination de l'amiral LEAHY, regrettent (que) le Président n'ait pas ... plus (...) la nature exacte des fonctions confiées a l'Amiral. Ils remarquent qu'il n'a pas été possible de faire préciser au Président s'il aurait sous ses ordres un véritable état major distinct de ceux de l'armée et de la marine, ou s'il serait possiblement un simple (conseiller) militaire sans pouvoir d'exécution.
Is N.Y. TIMES déclare que le "Président a confiance dans le jugement de l'ancien ambassadeur \& Vichy (et que) cette nomination est un pas ... mais utile vers l'unité du commandement.

Le CHICAGO TIMES a révélé hier pour la première fois qu'une véritable flotte japonaise comprenant au moins 5 croiseurs, 6 destroyers et 9 transports de troupes se trouve dans le port de Kiska. Presque tous les journaux volent dans cette occupation prolongée des Iles le prélude à une offensive (2807) japonaise vers ... . Le TIMES HERALD de Washington, jugeant "que la présence des Japonais aux Aléoutiennes est plus grave pour les E.U. que si l'ennemi avait occupé Midway", propose que "les Anglais seuls ouvrent le second front en Europe et que toutes les forces américaines disponibles entreprennent sans tarder de chasser les Japonais de leur avantposte qui menace l'Alaska."

(télégraphiées) de Londres ce matin indiquent que les négociations anglo-américaines ayant trait à l'ouverture du second front seraient terminées et que le ... ... a été mis au courant des décisions prises. D'après l'U.P., l'hypothèse d'un front limité sur le continent aurait été abandonnée. Ce serait une véritable offensive à large échelle qui serait en vue, même si la date de son dé(clon)chement devait être quelque peu retardée.
