Votre attaché naval a fait savoir à l'Amirauté que l'escale de l'ILE DE RE a Carapito pour chargement de ce navire en mazout, devrait être remplacée par une escale à Saint-Thomas.

Pour assurer la protection de nos navires nous communiquons régulièrement et à l'avance aux autorités allemandes les routes maritimes qu'ils doivent emprunter et les noms des ports où ils doivent faire escale. Nous avons déjà à plusieurs reprises dû notifier aux autorités allemandes des modifications de date de départ ou d'itinéraire résultant des décisions américaines et les autorités maritimes allemandes s'en sont plaintes à la délégation française (1628) d'armistice.

Une notification à la C.A.A. du nouveau port d'escale proposé pour l'ILE DE RE provoquerait certainement des difficultés que nous désirons éviter.

Vous rappelerez à cet égard que l'escale de l'ILE DE RE a Carapito a été demandée au Gouvernement américain le 3 juillet, acceptée par lui le 3 août et par l'Amirauté allemande le 7 août..

Je vous serais obligé donc, compte tenu des indications qui préódent et du fait que le déroutement de l'ILE DE RE sur Saint-Thomas exposerait ce navire à des dangers certains, de demander aux autorités américaines (1629) qu'à titre d'exception l'ILE DE RE

Le premier ministre a prononcé hier à la radio un discours dans lequel, après avoir souligné la gravité de l'heure, il a annoncé les décisions suivantes:

La réquisition pour les services de guerre atteindra les femmes comme les hommes (qui) portent les armes. Bientôt, va commencer l'enregistrement des femmes afin qu'elles puissent remplacer les hommes dans les travaux moins (durs) ou moins dangereux, et les (369) libérer ainsi pour le service militaire. Les (industries) non-essentielles à la guerre devraient se priver de tout ou d'une partie de leur personnel. D'après certains articles de la presse dont je n'ai pu encore obtenir confirmation, non seulement il assisterait en tant que représentant personnel du Président aux sessions du (3116) comité des chefs d'Etat-major anglo-américains mais présiderait même les sessions, qui réunissent le général MARSHALL, l'amiral KING, le général ARNOLD et du côté anglais le maréchal SIR JOHN DILL, l'amiral SIR ... LEIGHTON et deux autres généraux.

D'après un article du NER YORK SUR qui parait ... ... exagéré, l'amiral occuperait une position assez voisine de celle d'un commandant suprême.
