Fruit court ici avec persistance que serait nommé évêque et serait ainsi affecté hors Saint-Pierre. Clergé local ne confirme ni ne dément. En tout cas je souhaite très vivement que démarche Vatican réussisse à éloigner d'ici le premier et grand responsable de la division.

Le Chargé d'Affaires des E.U. à Alger m'a remis une note me faisant part de l'intention du Gouvernement américain d'inviter Italie à participer à titre d'observateur à la conférence monétaire et financière qui va s'ouvrir le 1er juillet à Bretton Woods.
Aux termes de cette note, (21409) le Gouvernement américain considère que, bien que Italie ne soit pas une (des) Nations Unies, les problèmes auxquels elle a à faire face sont un sujet de sérieuse préoccupation pour les Nations Unies et que, d'autre part, la chute de Rome et la constitution d'un gouvernement plus libre en Italie offrent une occasion de faire un geste concret en vue d'aider Italie à retrouver une certaine (21410) stabilité économique. Avant toutefois d'adresser invitation proposée, il (voud)rait connaître notre point de vue à ce sujet.
... cette communication, Gouvernement a décidé de faire savoir à mission américaine que nous n'étions pas favorables à suggestion du Gouvernement américain. Nous estimons en effet que l'Italie étant encore (21411) en état d'armistice avec les Alliés, sa participation à conférence monétaire soulèverait de sérieuses objections de principe. Nous croyons en outre que les organismes interalliés qualifiés pour s'occuper des affaires italiennes sont tous désignés pour prendre mesures qui apparaîtraient nécessaires en vue d'aider (21412) Italie à assainir sa situation économique. Les termes d'un téléphone requis de M. VIENOT confirmeraient bien ceux de votre téléphone précité (21303) à savoir que les stocks des armées alliées sont insuffisants. Voici texte du téléphone de M. VIENOT:
"Le Secrétaire des Affaires étrangères me fait savoir que les services américains du blocus nous autorisent à acheter 500.000 collections de vêtements qui seraient destinées (aux) prisonniers de guerre. Cette tranche représente (21304) le programme de 1945."
M. VIENOT ajoute qu'il sera difficile de faire revenir le blocus sur sa décision vu les bruits selon lesquels les allemands accepteraient le surplus des vêtements .0. sur les prisonniers de guerre, en particulier toute pièce au nombre de plus de (21305) deux par prisonnier, et propose d'accepter cette solution plutôt que de la remettre en cause. Bien que surpris, j'ai donné mon accord si le Comité du blocus est vraiment intransigeant. Je vous prie de me mêler si vous avez obtenu renseignements complémentaires.
