du 18 janvier.

Bien que le ministre de l'Intérieur ait fait immédiatement remettre en liberté notre navigateur, la démoralisation de l'équipage rendait le voyage trop dangereux et j'ai annulé la location du bateau. Notre attaché militaire revient aujourd'hui d'Acapulco, après avoir entreposé matériel et provisions. Pour le public, nous parviérons ainsi renoncer au voyage, ce qui met fin aux manœuvres des services secrets américains. Mais je prépare secrètement le voyage avec un autre bateau battant pavillon mexicain et lorsque tout sera prêt, dans une quinzaine de jours, je demanderai à notre Ambassadeur à Washington de faire, par le Département d'Etat, la notification officielle mentionnée dans le télégramme de M. BONNET. J'espère ainsi réaliser le voyage dans de bonnes conditions.
