Les déclarations de l'amiral LEANY produisent une profonde impression dans la presse canadienne. A titre d'exemple 1"Action Catholique" explique:- "Le Gouvernement de l'Etat français est devenu le ... de la lutte. C'est une opinion avec laquelle nous avons tenté de familiariser nos lecteurs." L' "Ottawa Journal", jusqu'ici très hostile, a des remords:- "Beaucoup de journaux (comme) le notre sont allés trop loin en ce qui concerne le Gouvernement de Vichy. Peut-être n'avons-nous pas assez pris note des conditions de la France."
