(2236) Les journaux de ce matin s'efforcent de modérer l'émotion manifestée hier à l'annonce de la victoire navale de MIDWAY.

Dans le "New York Times" M. BALDWIN écrit:-
"ce fut une défaite pour les Japonais mais non pas une catastrophe. Nous avons remporté une victoire mais non pas la supériorité dans le Pacifique.

Le journaliste note que d'après les informations actuellement disponibles il apparaît que les Américains n'ont engagé aucun navire dans cette bataille, et n'ont pu au dernier moment porter à la flotte japonaise le coup de grâce qui avait paru un instant possible. D'ailleurs depuis la nuit de samedi à dimanche le contact a été brisé et il est probable que la flotte (2237) japonaise est maintenant à l'(abri) à leurs possessions de WAKE et des îles MARSHALL.
