D'après des informations recueillies auprès du Président de la Chambre syrienne, le Ministre des Finances syrienne, d'obtenir une importante augmentation d'impôts en vue de la formation d'une armée syrienne.

D'après la même source, le Général SPSARG vient d'offrir (403) au Gouvernement français de mettre à sa disposition un anglois pour organiser le port de Lattaquleh. Le Gouvernement syrien aurait tendance à accepter cette offre. Il avait toutefois que les Britanniques n'en profitent pour contrôler le port de Lattaquleh comme ils l'ont fait à Alexandrette.

Je suis cette affaire de près.

Je me réfère à ma dépêche no 498 du 5 décembre (qui vous parvient par une valise aérienne confiée à M. NOPEK) au sujet des conférenciers de l'ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE.

Une information parue dans le journal "La Presse" de Montréal annonce que la "BOCIÈTE DES MORIVAIRES CANADIENS" aurait invité M. DUHAMEL à faire une tournée au Canada. Il s'agit en l'espèce (908) d'une société d'inspiration violente.

J'ai souligné dans ma lettre le grand intérêt qu'il y aurait à ce que des personnes de premier (ordre), telles que M. DUHAMEL, MAURIAC, SINGFRIED, viennent dans le courant de l'hiver au Canada en qualité de conférenciers officiels de l'ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE, pour (M.-ordre) à cette institution la vie et l'éclat qu'elle a perdus au cours de ces dernières (909) années.

Le sentiment est ici fréquemment exprimé que la libération de la France doit permettre de satisfaire de nouveau la curiosité (émouvante) qu'épreuve le public canadien à l'égard des grands esprits français. Cette (publicité) ne lui a été donnée depuis longtemps qu'en de rares circonstances. Or, elle est le fond de notre rayonnement et de notre influence. Nous (910) retirerions, de passage au
