M. ANDRE PHILIP s'attendait certainement à ce que sa visite à Washington reçût une publicité autrement importante que celle qui lui a été accordée. A notre connaissance deux journaux seulement ont reproduit quelques passages du communiqué long et emphatique qu'il avait préparé, et sans commentaire.
Par valise j'adresse à V.E. 1. texte de la note "Commissaire à l'Intérieur".
M. PHILIP se serait entretenu avec ... auquel il a assuré qu'un mouvement de (révolte) générale éclaterait contre les forces d'occupation et contre le régime de Vichy aussitôt que les armées d'occupation et d'invasion anglo-américaines prendraient pied sur le sol de la France.
Une Liste noire comprenant déjà un million de noms (3774) aurait été dressée par les organisations souterraines en vue de représailles contre ceux qui ont collaboré avec les Allemands ou qui auraient simplement aidé le Gouvernement de Vichy.
M. PHILIP a voulu persuader les Américains que seulement le prestige de M. DE GARLLE pourra prévenir un (manore) général de Français qui auraient à répondre de l'une ou l'autre de ces chefs d'accusation.

Les partisans de l'ouverture immédiate d'un second
théâtre d'opérations orientent, chaque jour davantage, leurs suggestions
vers le choix de l'Afrique du Nord et de l'Afrique Occidentale
française comme point de débarquement des Alliés. Ils insistent,
d'autre part, sur le caractère urgent de cette mesure. Il faut agir,
déclarent-ils, avant qu'il ne soit trop tard. Dans le "News" de
Washington, M. PHILIP SIRMS justifie son insistance par la nature
des rumeurs qui lui proviennent de Berlin, d'après lesquelles le
maréchal ROBMEL aurait récemment déclaré à NITLER que le front
africain avait plus de chances de devenir un théâtre d'opérations
que la France ou les Pays-Bas. L'inquiétude se serait développée
dans le haut-commandement allemand de voir l'affair re syrienne (5761)
se renouveler en Afrique du Nord. Une offensive des "Français
combattants", appuyée par les Nations Unies, sur le Maroc, l'Algérie
et la Tunisie risquerait de mettre en danger les troupes de ROBMEL.
