Après s'être concerté hier avec le Ministre des Affaires étrangères syrien, le Président du Conseil libanais a commenté aujourd'hui dans les termes suivants la déclaration du Général DE GARLIE dans sa conférence de presse du 25 octobre sur la situation au Levant.
"Je salue avec satisfaction le première partie de cette déclaration qui proclame que le Liban est indépendant de tous côtés. Ce qui augmente notre satisfaction c'est que cette déclaration catégorique est (152 missing) (153) donc pas possible, et le Liban ne le permettrait d'ailleurs pas, qu'il s'y passe quelque chose d'artificiel, et qu'il y surgisse des difficultés artificielles, ... personne n'a le droit de s'imposer dans la souveraineté, dans les destinées ou dans la politique de ce pays qui se trouve maintenant, grâce à DIEG, entre les mains de ses enfants représentés par les autorités nationales légales".
Interrogé par un (154) journaliste au sujet de l'éventualité d'un traité franco-libanais, NIAD SOUL s'est référé à la déclaration qu'il avait faite à ce sujet avant son départ pour Alexandre aux termes de laquelle le Gouvernement libanais se refusait à conclure un traité avec qui que ce soit avant fin de la guerre pour se présenter les mains libres à la Conférence de la paix. Le Président du Conseil a fait la même réponse à un journaliste qui lui demandait son sentiment sur la thèse qu'un traité entre la puissance mandataire et le pays sous mandat est la conclusion naturelle et obligatoire de ce régime.
