M. McLEISH vient de demander si, au cas où le Gouvernement français n'acceptait pas de désigner un autre représentant de la Résistance à la place de M. JOLIOT-CURIE, j'autoriserais un Français actuellement aux États-Unis qui serait mentionné en son lieu. Il s'agirait de M. VINZANT, neveu de M. QUEWILLE, qui a dirigé un groupe de Résistance (6199) dans le centre de la France jusqu'à août 1943, époque à laquelle, condamné à mort et recherché par le Gestapo, il a passé en Afrique Nord puis en Amérique où il dirige le service des bois de notre mission économique.
J'ai répondu à M. McLEISH qu'en ce qui me concernait la chose ne semble impossible.
Si les autorités américaines maintiennent leur attitude, l'affront fait à M. JOLIOT-CURIE atteint la Résistance française tout entière, au sein de laquelle les (6200) communistes se sont sacrifiés comme leurs camarades et en partie pour la cause commune des alliés. Il n'y aurait pas dans ces conditions d'autre attitude possible pour les Français aux États-Unis que de (M. :se) solidariser totalement avec M. JOLIOT-CURIE, et je serais moi-même dans l'obligation de m'abstenir ainsi que tout le personnel de cette mission française de toute participation et assistance à la manifestation du 16 octobre.

Mon délégué à Londres a été appelé par le Président de la République syrienne qui lui a demandé de façon pressée une réponse au sujet du transfert des troupes syriennes, comme suite à entrevue dont je vous ai rendu compte dans mon tólégremme $988^{\circ} \mathrm{CH}$ du 21 septembre. Il a ajouté que, si aucune réponse à ce propos n'était obtenue, son Gouvernement serait en mauvaise posture devant le Parlement qui se réunit le 7 , et qu'on pourrait craindre des investigations.
(28463) J'ai invité le délégué à répondre au Président que je n'avais pu recevoir aucune instruction en raison de la presarité des communications avec la France et que je le tiendrai informé de toutes les décisions concernant la question.
