Cette agence (M. : est) aujourd'hui la plus importante des Etats-Unis pour la distribution articles autres que des nouvelles. Elle a clientèle 1.500 quotidiens et périodiques. alllée aux intérêts HEARST, cette agence a fréquemment publié articles défavorables a la France, mais il faut se garder d'exagérer influence de HEARST (6147) sur sa politique générale qui est surtout marquée par le goût du sensationnel. J'estime que nous avons grand intérêt à nous concilier ce syndicat, étant donné que ses articles s'adressent à une énorme clientèle de petites gens généralement mal renseignés sur notre pays. Le journal d'Alger "Combat" du 28 novembre dernier a publié des extraits d'un rapport du Général YON STUELPHAGEL de février 1942 sur la façon dont l'Allemagne prépare une troisième guerre en s'assurant par des hécatombes et des destructions une marge de supériorité économique et démographique plus grande qu'en 1939. Nous avons abondamment utilisé ce document; cependant (6133) beaucoup d'Américains mettent en doute son authenticité. Ayant voulu notamment le faire inclure dans une publication de l'Office d'Information des Nations-Unies, le délégué américain m'a opposé que le Département d'Etat n'avait jamais pu en vérifier la source. Pourriez-vous me renseigner d'urgence à ce sujet? J'ai obtenu qu'on retarde la mise sous presse de la publication en question jusqu'au reçu de votre réponse.

Je viens de retrouver dans les archives de l'Ambassade l'exemplaire original du Traité de Versailles dont j'avais assuré le transport de Paris à Bordeaux en juin 1940 et l'envoi ultérieur à Washington. Dans un des (cylindres) se trouvait également le Traité de Westphalie, qui avait été confié à M. SULLITT et remis par lui à J. Beriez-vous d'accord pour que, avant de renvoyer ces documents historiques en France, nous autorisions leur exposition publique, sous les auspices (6138) de la Bibliothèque du Congrès au profit de la campagne du War Relief Fund qui s'ouvre le 15 de ce mois? Une telle manifestation soulèverait un intérêt considérable dans tous les Etats-Unis. M. ARCHIBALD MACLEISH, à quel (M. : parlév) à titre personnel de ce projet, l'a accueilli avec la plus grande chaleur. Il m'a assuré que ce geste du Gouvernement français serait accueilli avec la plus vive reconnaissance par les dirigeants du War Relief Fund et aurait un grand retentissement dans l'opinion publique. Je vous serais reconnaissant de me faire connaître d'urgence votre décision.

Hentré ce matin à Angora, j'ai été reçu aujourd'hui
même par le nouveau Ministre des Affaires étrangères, H. MASAË SAEA.
Celui-ci, très cordial, m'a dit la satisfaction qu'il ressentait à
pouvoir recevoir officiellement un représentant de la vraie France.
Ce langage dans sa bouche est, je crois, sincère car, comme j'ai
pu le lui rappeler, il a été, l'an dernier, un des premiers parmi
les hommes politiques turcs à m'exprimer la joie que lui (28415)
causait la présence à Angora d'un défenseur du Comité de la libération
Nationale. J'en ai profité pour ajouter que l'époque du Comité
était dépassée et que nous espérons .U. voir le Gouvernement turc
adopter en ce qui nous concerne les termes de Gouvernement
Provisoire de la République. (Mon télégramme 637.)

M. H. SAEA m'a dit à ce sujet: "Il nous est très
difficile de trop nous écarter, en l'occurrence, de la position de
nos alliés anglais au moins dans l'Europe des ... , mais la
(28415) . EH. ... en a ressorti en fait de la formule par
laquelle nous (.U.)ons sans réserve le caractère .U. .U.
représentant .U. . Il a alors abordé la question de la représenta-
tion turque en France. D'après un télégramme reçu par Londres
du consul de Turquie à Paris, les autorités françaises sembleraient
disposées à voir .EH. mission de (28414) H. REEKER, l'Ambascadeur
auprès de Vichy. M. H. SAEA est assez surpris par cette nouvelle
qui ne correspondait pas à ce que je lui avais dit. (Votre
télégramme 561). .U. aux intentions du Gouvernement turc
dénision à renouveler son personnel diplomatique en France .U.
le place dans des situations gênantes. Au point où en sont
les choses, l'on veut envoyer (28415) tout de suite une mission
dont le caractère serait définitif. La mission de H. ZEHIBAPOLAR
m'a plus d'objet dans ces conditions. M. H. SAEA ne m'a cependant
pas dissimulé que l'on a consulté la Grande-Bretagne sur la forme
qu'elle conseillait de donner à la représentation turque en France.
J'ai rappelé au Ministre que le cas de la Turquie alliée à la
France en l'(espèce) ... était cependant différent (28415) de celui
de l'Angleterre, car pour celle-ci la représentation auprès de la
vraie France existe depuis longtemps déjà, tandis que pour la
