Description

The Mynah Bird was a popular music venue in Yorkville, Toronto, and was known for being a coffeehouse venue in the morning and hosting R&B performers at night. Many famous Canadian folk singers got their start here, such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, with Neil Young forming a band named after the venue. The band “The Mynah Birds” featured Neil Young, and a very young Rick James, on the run from being enlisted in America. Yorkville was known as the place for musicians, and is credited as being the place where Toronto got its Sound. Artists spanning many genres performed here, and was and incredibly important part to the formation of many music scenes in Toronto.
