Title

Participants at a public meeting at Seaview African United
Baptist Church, Africville

Description

This is a photo taken of residents attending a meeting at Seaview United Baptist Church in 1962 to discuss and oppose a report by the City of Halifax’s development department that would lead to the demolition of the settlement and the forced relocation of its residents. This photo displays a connected and determined community who organised together from the beginning and fought for their home. The group, comprised of both men and women, young and old, shows the impact of Halifax’s community as a whole, while also highlighting how involved the entire community was in the social and political life of africville.
