Fugitive Slave Chapel, London, Ontario

Dublin Core

Title

Fugitive Slave Chapel, London, Ontario

Description

This church was founded in 1847 to service London, Ontario's growing Black population. Seeing as they did not have the funds to construct themselves a church, they used an old home as a place to congregate. This small chapel was a common place for both residents and passers-by to stop and rest. Once London's Black community outgrew the small wooden chapel, they built a new church, the Beth-Emmanuel British Methodist Episcopal Church.
