Title

The Routledge Handbook Of Black Canadian Literature

Description

This essay in The Routledge Handbook of Black Canadian Literature further explores beyond the who’s of the history, and it goes more into the how. This source explains the process and work it took for Black filmmakers specifically to be recognized and accepted in the arts region of Canada. It was an art form that seemed out of the picture for Black artists for many years due to the pushbacks and lack of support given. There was especially pushback because there was even a government mandate that did not want to support the Black filmmakers of that time. This source is important because it draws attention to the fact that it was difficult to create film as a Black person in Canada, but it shows the dedication and how much work these artists have put into their craft.
