Title
Officials And Members Of The Chinese Association's Executive Committee
Subject
Chinese Diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago
Description
This is a photograph taken of members of the Chinese Association of Trinidad and Tobago (at least is now currently referred to as such) in 1929. While 1929 is fairly before the website’s focus period, it is useful in contextualising how the Chinese diasporic presence in the Caribbean has been longstanding and continuous since before the 20th century (and in this photo at least before 1945). The presence of this association in the Caribbean points towards a sizeable population of Chinese Diaspora in countries like Trinidad and Tobago, with such an entrenched presence to where specific Chinese cultural associations are able to emerge in state of seeming modernity, given the appearance of these men in suits and marble flooring.
