Title

Percentage Of Chinese Diaspora In Population

Subject

Chinese Diaspora in Africa and the Caribbean

Description

This is a graph I created based on the works of Dudley Poston (Et Al.) in the article, “The Global Distribution of the Overseas Chinese Around 1990”, as well as Walton Look Lai and Chee-Beng Tan in the book, The Chinese in Latin America and the Caribbean. This graph documents the percentage of Chinese diaspora in a few countries (the three countries with the highest quantity of Chinese Diaspora in the Caribbean and Africa) and comparing that with Canada. The purpose of this is to show how internationally there is a great connection of Chinese diasporas with African and Caribbean countries, contrary to what stereotypes exist which would portray other portions of Asia or (non-latin) North America as the sole destinations of Chinese immigration. There are even countries, like Mauritius (3.5%), which have a greater percentage of Chinese diaspora within their country than Canada (2.76%) itself, showing a greater integration of Chinese and African cultures than Canada.
