Dominion Iron And Steel Co. Steel Plant
Dublin Core
Title
Dominion Iron And Steel Co. Steel Plant
Description
DISCO finished construction in 1901, making it one of the most modern steel plants in the world, and making Sydney into an important industrial city of North America. The plant was under American management and had mostly American machinery operating it, which is one reason that superintendent John H. Means was attracted to getting African American workers from the South, since they already had experience in the American steel industry.
In 1909 mass amounts of Caribbean immigrants came to work at DISCO after many of the African Americans had left.
