Description
Dr. Alvinus Calder immigrated from Grenada and attended the University of Toronto before he was forced to leave the college due to the fact that his race would offend white students at the school. Calder then went to Queens University, where he got his degree, and moved to Sydney to open his medical practice in 1920. Calder worked to establish the African Orthodox Church in Sydney and was the first-ever president of the UNIA in Sydney.
