"Sir George Williams Riot"

Title

"Sir George Williams Riot"

Description

A photo of the street outside the Henry F. Hall building on the Sir George Williams campus, on February 11th, 1969. The computer lab on the ninth floor was both where the protestors stayed during their sit-in and where they made their last stand in February. They threw quite a lot of computer paper out the windows creating a memorable scene, and that paper was what caught most easily when the fire started on the floor. The paper flying in the air, black smoke pouring out the windows, and police and fire vehicles surrounding the building, would have been the visuals coming to mind for many of the people involved and nearby that day. These symbols become important through the people who remember and they can make the history real in the imaginations of learners.
