Title
Dr. Althea “Pearleen” Oliver (née Borden)
Description
This is a photograph of Pearleen Oliver, who was a Black pastor, and a Black rights activist. I will use this image and mainly talk about when Pearleen Oliver was interviewed about her campaign surrounding the inclusion of Black nurses, which serves as a primary account of the discrimination of women of African descent in the nursing prodfession in Canada. She talks about both, the discrimination in education and in the workplace. In the interview, she talks about a story somebody told her, that hospitals in Nova Scotia were not accepting Black girls, correcting that it is not just a provincial issue, but one across the entirety of the Country. The interview is a great primary source about activism for opportunities for Black women in the province of Nova Scotia and Canada as a whole.
