Title

Finding A Space Of Our Own

Description

This was an advertisement for an organization called Zami as seen on the front page of a queer-focused magazine called Xtra!. Zami was founded in 1984 by a Black lesbian feminist, Debbie Douglas, along with other members like Courtnay McFarlane. Zami, which existed for five years, was Canada’s first organization for Black, queer people of Caribbean descent. Though its existence was short, Zami’s founding members began many queer-inclusive organizations to follow, such as Aya, the Black Lesbian and Gay Action Group, the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention, and more.
