Africville Building Permit Application No. 20962
Dublin Core
Title
Africville Building Permit Application No. 20962
Description
This is a permit application for an extension to the Africville school shows that the community was growing and investing in future generations. The fact that there were residents pushing for a larger school demonstrates that Africville’s population was increasing and that families valued having a proper educational space for their children. This document directly challenges stereotypes that Africville was neglected because people didn’t care about improving local services, in this document the community is clearly advocating for better conditions. The permit also serves as a means to highlight how education was a shared priority, with residents wanting their children to have the same opportunities as other students in Halifax.
