This clip depicts Michelle talking about her experience with Tony Brown, another well known drag queen, who mentored her and taught her the art of gender performance. Crystal Lite shares that Michelle joined the Manatee, a popular gay club on St Joseph street, right off of Yonge Street which operated from the mid to late ‘70s. Tony noticed her and brought her backstage to help her with her makeup and look, helping shape her into what soon became a Toronto legend, showing the importance of taking care of one another in the community since, for many, this was the family they had.
