The Nova Scotia Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded in 1945 by Rev. William Pearly Oliver at the Cornwallis Street Baptist Church. They wanted to improve living conditions for Black Nova Scotians and fight discrimination. They helped bring Viola Desmond's case to the Supreme Court, with hundreds of members across thee problem working together they became one of the most important civil rights groups in Canada.
