Title A name given to the resource Montreal Jazz Great Sutton Dies Description An account of the resource More than a page was dedicated to Myron Sutton after he passed away in 1982, the grieving article goes over his musical career and all the things we went through to continue pursuing his passion. It details his inability to play in large venues or ballrooms due to his race and the difficulty of joining any unions. Growing up, he learned to play the piano and many more instruments in his local church and was always looking for job opportunities, playing in Gatineau, Montreal, New York and Niagara Falls. After an extensive career, Sutton's band began falling apart and jobs were being replaced by white bands. Unable to afford to keep the band together, members drifted apart and faded into a quiet life. Even the few halls that would hire Black musicians were discriminating and white owned businesses were turning over to white bands, who many times, were covering Black Musicians songs.
