He studied at the Rehran Music Conservatory. He immigrated to the USA in 1974, studying at Indiana University and later The Juilliard School, where he earned a DMA in Composition. His music is strongly rooted in Neo-Romanticism of the late 20th century, drawing from his cutlural roots by incorporating Persian musical modes and rhythms.
