Todas as Manhãs-Homenagem a Luiz Bonfá

Title

Todas as Manhãs-Homenagem a Luiz Bonfá

Description

Brazilian composer João Luiz is a two-time Latin Grammy nominee guitarist, educator and composer.

As written in the liner notes of an album by Luiz's ensemble Trio Virado, "Todas as Manhãs-Homenagem a Luiz Bonfá" was orginally for three guitars and written for the Mannes Guitar Seminar in 2011. The work "describes some of the scenes in the award-winning 1958 Brazilian film Blatk Orpheus. The famous song "Manha de Carnaval" by Luiz Bonfá is the main theme of the piece, which is the theme and variations backwards. There are a total of thirteen variations, culminating in a dramatic return of the Bonfa song. Todas as Manhãs notonly tells the story of Black Orpheus but also shows a variety of techniques, rhythms, and colors characteristic of Brazilian dances. The version for guitar, flute, and viola is dedicated to Trio Virado."
