Black composer Ronald Roxbury completed "Two Songs of Walt Whitman" in the final weeks of his life. As included on Bridge Records' website: "“Goodbye My Fancy” is a lover’s farewell, and is set as a flowing barcarolle. “Here the Frailest Leaves” offers an uncompromisingly austere setting. The musicians intone soft, slow, rising phrases. Out of the close counterpoint, a luminous E-flat major triad provides a benedictory conclusion."

Black composer Jeff Scott wrote "Of Good and Evil" for oboe and piano. As written by the composer on the TrevCo publisher's website:
"I’m drawn to the subject of good versus evil. Goddesses and demons, angels, and devils – I find it all fascinating and great source material for composing. In Of Good and Evil, the piano introduces the Devil’s motif in the opening bars of the first movement. Sweetly determined, the oboe dances with the darker angels, fighting to stay in the light, but temptation is always present – menacing, taunting, seducing, raging….Of Good and Evil was commissioned by Toyin Spellman-Diaz, and it affords me the opportunity to showcase an artist’s unique gifts."
The work has three movements:
1. Waltz with a Devil
2. In Judgement of Mankind
3. Fly with the Orishas
(*Note: The second movement can be sung or performed on oboe)
