Baker served in the CAMC (Canadian Army Medical Corps) until her death in October of 1918 of Bronchial Pneumonia in England. Baker was originally born in Winnipeg Manitoba in August of 1886, her brother George Baker was a major in the Canadian Armed Forces during the First World War. Miriam's brother was her inspiration to join the war effort. As a single woman, Baker was eligible to serve as a nurse in the Canadian Army Medical Corps. Although there is not too much information regarding Baker's personal life or her time as a nurse in the Army, she can still be regarded as an extremely important part of Canadian women's history at war.
