<text>John Forbes was a member of the Catholic Commercial Academy in Montreal, meaning he was trained in Catholicism. After three years of study at the Academy, Forbes was moved to Petit Seminaire de Montreal. Many years later, he departed for Africa and studied at Seminaire Saint-Louis, a place where, as well as being a theologist, he devoted his life to being a missionary. During his time in Africa, he accomplished many projects:
a)	Establishment of Mother Marie-Salome.
b)	A cathedral from 100,000 donations from his charitable campaign would open.
c)	On the eve of his death, he was the first Canadian that joined the Society of Missionaries within Africa. He was also the first bishop in Africa from Canada.

While in Africa, Forbes, while in Rubaga, was given the title of superior during his teaching in St. Mary’s school. After his appointed title of superior, almost three years following this event, he was appointed as a bishop of Vaga, and at the same time, was appointed as the coadjutor for the Ugandan vicar apostolic.

In 1720, Pierre-Michel Laure left for Chicoutimi and upon arrival he started teaching the Montagnais, Catholic teachings, since most had forgotten. He also visited the Indians of Tadoussac, who were already well disposed to Christianity . He had spent four winters with the Tadoussac and in 1723 built a chapel and house for the missionary. In the summer he continued his work at Chicoutimi, along with the Papinachois, at the Îlets Jérémie post. In 1725, he gave up his position with the Tadoussac, and started residing in Chicoutimi; where he started building a new chapel. In 1737, after 18 years Father Laure was appointed missionary residing at Les Éboulements. In 1738 he returned to exercise his ministry in Tadoussac; that was his last visit to Saguenay. </text>

Since the Montagnais of Saguenay were abandoned for 18 years, Father Laure was tasked with re-teaching everything to the citizens. He held a chapel where some people had traveled more than 100 leagues to participate. In 1721 an epidemic swept through the citizens; Father Laure was in charge of aiding his people, during this time he was comforted by several conversions. He would also visit the Indians of Tadoussac where he would hold religious service. Father Laure would continue to carry out his ministry at the Chicoutimi mission, and the Papinachois at the Îlets Jérémie post. In Chicoutimi he decided to build a new chapel, where he celebrated the first mass on August 15, 1726. Father Laure himself made the altar, accessories, and the interior ornamentation; he gave the first “blow of ax”.</text>

<text>Ada Janet Ross was a commendable nursing sister who enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps (CAMC) at 47 years old, notably older than most other nursing sisters who averaged around 25 years old. Looking at her records, Ross was very willing to aid in the war to the best of her abilities. She was compliant, agreeing to be vaccinated and serve in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, which required a lot of sacrifice as women needed to leave their families behind and remain unmarried. Ada left Halifax in 1915 and arrived in Liverpool a little over a week later. From there, Ada was sent to an array of different hospitals in England and France, and after serving for a few years, she succumbed to a combination of various illnesses in 1918. </text>

She enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps on July 4th, 1918 to help with the repercussions of the First World War. <text>Agnes MacPherson was 25 years of age at the time of her enlistment and 27 years at the time of her death. Although her time serving as a Nursing Sister was limited, she was able to help many people while stationed at the 3rd Stationary Hospital in Doullens, France. Agnes spent her time diagnosing and treating soldiers who had been injured in the war. The ratio of Nursing Sisters who served to Nursing Sisters who died is very low (thought to be less than 100 deaths) and so Agnes MacPherson dying via enemy bombing is rare. It was a raid made on the hospital on May 30th, 1918 during her service where bombs were dropped from enemy aircrafts. Agnes was severely wounded and eventually succumbed to her wounds. Everything she possessed was given to her next of kin, Helen Mary MacPherson, her mother as requested by her will.</text>

After graduating, she volunteered for Queen Alexandra Imperial Nursing Service. After working for two different hospitals, she finally volunteered in CAMC (Canadian Army Medical Corps) in 1918. She volunteered to serve people wounded during World War 1 because of her desire to offer humanitarian aid. She contacted Influenza while serving in November 1918. <text>Albanel was born in France to French or English parents in either 1616 or 1613. He studied in the Jesuit order and taught throughout France at various Jesuit colleges. In 1649 Albanel travelled to Canada; arriving in Quebec he travelled to Montreal where he ministered to the people there. He travelled to the Tadoussac mission in 1650 and returned there many times over the next 10 years, making missions there for the winter and returning in the spring/summer to Quebec. He spent many years travelling around Canada as a missionary, priest, and military chaplain. In 1671 he was chosen as one of two men to travel to Hudson Bay to determine if it was the rumoured Northern Sea. He was selected in part due to his dealings with the Indigenous people familiar with Hudson Bay. He was successful in this endeavour and attempted to repeat that success in 1674. However, this journey was unsuccessful as Albanel was injured and then captured by the English and subsequently sent to England. Returning first to France to clear his name, then to Quebec with the suspicion of his treachery lifted. He was sent to Sault Ste Marie as a the superior and spent the rest of his life in that area as a missionary and priest. Dying at the age of 80 on January 11, 1696.</text>

Through his diplomacy and relationship with the Indigenous people not only did Albanel reach Hudson Bay but he established ties with the Indigenous people there, baptized 200 people (by his own account), and discovered the British ships he had been sent to find.
Tasked with a second expedition in 1673, Albanel was unsuccessful. He suffered great injury and hardship and after seeking refuge with the English was captured and sent to England. This led to suspicion of his allegiances, which were eventually absolved. He did not return to Hudson Bay.</text>

<text>Alexina Dussault was born in Saint-Hyacinthe on March 5, 1882. Her life, from what I gathered, was one that ended in quite a tragedy. The cause of her death was drowning which, in and of itself, could have been avoidable. She seemed like a person that easily conformed and portrayed her love for the craft, as brought by her willingness to accept the terms of her enlistment. Considering she was single for quite a while, this meant that she fully devoted her efforts strictly to her job/work. She did not have many people to return to, except her small family, which ultimately makes her death rather an unfortunate one. She was eventually buried in Nova Scotia. Overall I could not gather too much information, and judging from the outside would be difficult as I cannot assume how her life was simply based on some details, but I could generalize that she was an honorable worker and devoted her life to the craft.</text>

<text>John Macpherson Almond was a Church of England military chaplain during the first world war, initially attached to the 1st artillery division. He was promoted twice, first to honorary major, then to lieutenant-colonel. During this time, he also was promoted to assistant director of the Canadian Chaplain Service (CCS). Later becoming director, he set about transforming the CCS to become a multi-denominational service, working to recover the service from his predecessor’s mismanagement. He removed some underperforming clerics, reinforced links to Canadian branches, and encouraged his padres to compete in educational and social work for the Canadian troops. He survived the first world war, continuing to work in aiding the veterans, including ensuring that they received a proper burial. After the war was declared in 1939, he once again volunteered for frontline service but passed away unexpectedly in his sleep 3 days later.</text>

While navigating her documents, we came across the Casualty Form which lists everywhere that she had been in service and a timeline of events, including hospitalizations up until her death. This document is interesting as it demonstrates how long she dedicated her life to helping soldiers during the war. From these documents, one can interpret that Anna was in generally in good health aside from contracting an ear infection. Anna continued to serve as a Nursing Sister until June 27th, 1918 when she drowned on the Llandovery Castle Ship. </text>
