Languages Spoken or Written French; English; Spanish Biographical Text Cleophee Tetu took her vows with the Roman Catholic – Sisters of Charity of Providence and assumed the name of Sister Thérèse de Jesus in 1846. Sister Thérèse was recognized for her leadership and managerial qualities between 1846-1854 from her work in various locales of Quebec and Burlington, Vermont. In 1857, Sister Thérèse joined an international mission in Chile consolidating three previously created establishments (est.1853) of the Sisters of Providence. The Sisters assumed the administration of an orphanage in Valparaiso, Chile, replacing the former administrators – the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In that same year, Sister Thérèse relocated to work in a newly established novitiate in Santiago under the instruction of Mother Victoire Laroque, who was one of the foundresses of the congregation. After a year of mission work in this novitiate, Sister Thérèse returned to the orphanage in Valparaiso to assume the role of Director, where she worked until 1863, when she was recalled to Montreal.
