He started his theology studies in France and finished them in 1675 when he arrived in Canada. He was a missionary who spent almost a decade in Pentagouet (Castine, Maine) where he played a huge role in keeping the Abenakis under the French influence. After taking part in multiple raids and attack, Thury was made viscar general by the bishop of Quebec and later, in 1698, he became the superior of the missions in Acadia.
