At morn Mr. E Deville arrived from the west. I met him at the station. He remains over for a day to [Lae Louis___ous] steamer east. He is at our hotel + we spent most of our time together discussing the future of our longitude work. He lacks some backbone. He is so afraid of offending the Toronto or McGill obersavatory authorities – of occupying ground which they may or do claim. I met Mr. + Mrs. Wilson, Miss J McLaren + Miss [_ Bruln]. The first three acquaintances of 14 years ago. Of course Marie met them too [then we]. I had to [stay] for Mrs. W., she has a pleasant recollection of me.
