We went to the harbour in the morning to see the arrival of Mr. Pattinson and at noon Harry Erb returned from Winnipeg so that we have Preston well represented at present in Port Arthur. Marie has had pleasant companions in Mrs. Lehmen + Mrs. [Zimmerman] in the hotel, especially the latter who has become quite attached to her and regrets not having known her so well when she went to Winnipeg with her husband (Sup’l of CPR) in his private car, otherwise she would have asked her to come along. In the afternoon Marie, Max + I went out for a row, we visited the [____] [Riverer] and then rowed to the large C.P.R elevation which we inspected, then leisurely returned, finding Gov Pattinson waiting for us. Shortly afterwards Max went with him + Mr. Bishop to Fort William on the Kakabeka.
In the evening Gov Pattinson + M. Bishop came to the observatory but unfortunately it was very cloudy, but nonetheless I managed to catch a 3[rd] magnitude star and show it them to their great delight. It surprised Goerge when I said to how now look in + if it is not too cloudy you will see a star moving across the field and he saw it. Later I began observing it still being cloudy but clearing, but alas when the time for signals came I learned that it was very cloudy in Winnipeg + McKing not at the observatory at all.
