Danielle grew up in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, also known as Sudbury, Ontario, and had an appreciation for nature from a young age. Her family's having indigenous roots to an Algonquin woman further influences her appreciation which is evident in her writing. She uses her interest in Indigenous history and practices, particularly their alignment with efforts to protect the environment, in her stories<em> Forever Birchwood</em> and <em>Daughter of the Deer.</em>

Wolf's and her friend's treehouse hideaway Birchwood, is threatened to be cut down, pushing Wolf to fight harder to protect the environment she cares deeply for. Her passion is fuelled when discovering her family’s indigenous connections as her great grandmother was a tree talker showing her destiny to protect the wildlife and plants around her. However, Wolf runs into constant obstacles as her mom does not wish to understand their history as well her mom’s boyfriend runs a construction company adding to the destruction of the local ecosystems.
