Context of Dataset

In total, the dataset contains 1,100 songs that charted in the top 100 from 2010 to 2020, 723 of those being unique songs. 249 unique artists are present in this dataset.

Notes on the data

In the visualisations, we make reference to "women" and "men" and these codes include solo artists and ensembles composed of only one gender identity. The lead singer of Against Me! transitioned mid-career, therefore this band is counted twice in visualisations. Finally, the terms in brackets ("[ ]") means that the value is assumed (i.e., we assumed the artist is white or straight).
