Description
Rossetti poem(s): "Song" ("When I am dead, my dearest")
Notes about the text: The score mistakenly attributes the lyrics to the composer, Frederic Packer, instead of Christina Rossetti. There are a few minor changes to Rossetti's lyrics: in the fifth line, "green grass" is changed to "green earth"; the last two lines of the poem, "Haply I may remember,/And haply may forget" are changed to "perchance I may remember, perchance I may forget."
Tempo markings: "Moderato con espressione"
Notes: Ives notes that "The publication date is uncertain. The only extant copies, at The National Library of Australia and the State Library of Tasmania, are undated, with the catalog listing estimating a date between 1880 and 1899" (DM93).
