Composition history: "‘A Hope Carol’ was composed as a choral piece in 2006. A version for solo voice was composed in 2007 [2008?] and is dedicated to Elizabeth Mannion." ("Three Poems of Christina Rossetti"). "The song was originally composed in 2008. In 2010, David Conte published two more settings of Christina Rossetti to form the song set Three Poems of Christina Rossetti. The song is still published alone and as part of the song cycle."
