Composition history: "Following the commissioning of a new introit, Bring us, O Lord for the Conwy Classical Music Festival, the Director of Music at St Mary's Church, Conwy asked if I could write his church choir a work for Christmas. My immediate thought was to write a new setting of a familiar text and as I began scouring websites for potential texts, In the bleak midwinter kept coming back to me."

Performance instructions: "This particular setting has a very simplistic feel to it, although contains some challenges for the average choir in the unaccompanied sections. However, the vocal writing has been kept as straightforward as possible and will feel very natural to the singers."
