Composition history: "As soon as I read this poem out aloud, a melody instantly came into my head. As the lyrical expressive vocal lines developed, it became obvious that a gentle lilting piano accompaniment would be appropriate. I hope I have captured the utter joy and pleasure the writer was feeling when she wrote this poem about her love" ("A Birthday – SATB choir, piano and optional soloists").
