Description
Rossetti poem(s): "'Who has seen the wind?'"
Notes about the text: The entire poem is repeated in this setting.
Tempo markings: "Legato"; "Rubato"; quarter note = 92-96
Performance instructions: For "SSA, accompanied, with optional instrument in C"; "Expressively". In the score's "Performance Notes" section, it states: "Sing with a beautiful, full tone quality. Work for purity of vowel sounds. Once in a while, at chosen places, a little breath in the tone would be appreciated. When you sing the word "wind" pucker a bit and raise your eyebrows as you ask the question. Sing "trembling" with a sense of mystery and wonder. At measure 35, the sopranos sing the "oo" lightly with a touch of breath in the tone. Remember: This is not a gale you are singing about, rather a gentle breeze that leaves the leaves trembling. At the end, let your tone die away. Then stand still until your director release you. Look for beauty in simplicity. You just might find an aesthetic experience there."
